For many middle school students, it may begin as another special assembly or a speech about a historical figure. But the more we learn about Kamarajar, the more we realise that his story is really about us. Kamarajar believed that education should never be a privilege. He understood that every child, regardless of where they came from or how much their family earned, deserved the opportunity to learn. His vision transformed education in Tamil Nadu, opening the doors of schools to thousands of children who otherwise may never have stepped into a classroom. Today, it is easy to take education for granted. We have classrooms equipped with technology, libraries filled with books, science laboratories, sports facilities, and teachers who guide us every day. Yet, only a few decades ago, many children had to choose between going to school and helping their families earn a livelihood. Learning about Kamarajar reminds us that the opportunities we enjoy today were made possible because someone believed education could change lives. For middle school students, his life also teaches another important lesson. Great leaders are not remembered because of how much they owned, but because of how much they gave. Kamarajar's leadership was built on honesty, simplicity, and an unwavering commitment to public service. These are qualities that remain relevant whether we aspire to become scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, teachers, or engineers. At Manchester International School, students are encouraged to understand history not simply as a collection of dates and events, but as stories that continue to influence our lives today. Discussions around Education Development Day help learners appreciate why education matters and how it has shaped societies, communities, and individual lives. Education is more than preparing for examinations. It teaches us to think critically, solve problems, understand different perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to society. These are values that Kamarajar championed throughout his life and that continue to guide education today. As students, celebrating Education Development Day is perhaps best done not only by remembering Kamarajar's achievements but by making the most of the opportunities we have been given. Every question we ask, every book we read, every new skill we learn, and every dream we pursue becomes a tribute to the vision of a leader who believed that education has the power to transform lives.
